Peter Hobbs, Sharmila Chauhan, Martin Ouvry, Matt Thorne

The event runs 7pm to 8.30pm and is hosted by Alison DeFrees.

During the interval (7.30 or so) a light supper is available from the café – warm panini or Cajun chicken flatbread from £3 to £4, or treat yourself to fresh fruit salad, a cold drink, hot chocolate, iced coffee or an infusion.

The short story cafe is programmed by short fiction magazine Pulp Net, in association with Costa, the UK’s largest and fastest-growing coffee shop brand, and sponsor of some of the UK’s most prestigious literary awards.

This particular event is also in association with Tell Tales and celebrates the recent publication of their ‘Global Village’ anthology.

Sharmila Chauhan’s short stories have appeared in various magazines and in Tell Tales Vol 2.

Martin Ouvry’s stories have appeared in anthologies and magazines including New Writing, Tell Tales, The Flash and Concrete.

Matt Thorne is a prolific author of novels and short stories. His novel Cherry (Weidenfeld & Nicolson) was long-listed for the 2004 Man Booker Prize.

9 March 2009: the Willesden Herald Short Story prize

Pulp Net Short Story Cafe on 9 Mar 2009 was held in association wtih Costa and with the Willesden Herald Short Story prize, sponsored in 2009 by Pulp Net. Reading from their stories were three of the shortlisted authors: Jo Lloyd, Margot Taylor and Jill Widner. The 2009 judge of the International Willesden Herald Short Story competition, Rana Dasgupta, announced the winning story ‘Work’ and presented winner Jo Lloyd with her award. Jo’s story will be published in the associated anthology New Short Stories 3 and will also appear in a future edition of Pulp Net.

Rana Dasgupta also spoke about the short story and gave a brief reading from his novel, Solo.
